SCAMP #434 Build - October Progress Report

Back from vacation and back to work!

The 'turning point' for my build happened this month with the flipping of the hull.

It is all about glassing, fairing and sanding.  Pretty straight forward if at times tedious.

Fabricated the skegs from the bottom 3/4" plywood panel of the building jig.

First coast of deck and cockpit paint - Interlux Brightsides Grand Banks Beige (looks greenish in this pic)

Flipped!

Supported by two B&D Workmates

Guess this will be cut up for the fireplace.... but wait...those curves...

Firewood for sure

Trimming the CB trunk posts

Gluing up the rudder cheeks

Trimming the dowels.  These sure make the alignment a breeze

Fairing the chines

Adding a 3/8" radius to inside of CB case for the glassing to come

Let the glassing begin - 2" extra tape on chines
Well I know these fit - longitudinals from jig used for template

Transposed the saw lines from the plans to make template
Transcribed lines from template to 3/4 ply bottom of building jig

Cut out four pieces and laminated into two skegs
Glassing bottom

Skegs test for fit

Glassing fist plank and epoxy sealing the others

All manner of weights used to glue down the skegs

Skegs glued down, filleted and taped

Farley and I discovered an ancient and long forgotten apple tree on our beach walk...
